Michael Nottelmann
Michael Nottelmann is a
coin collector from Chicago, Illinois who has been collecting for
almost 40 years. Mike specializes in 20th Century US Type coins, but his
interests are varied and include early US coinage as well. He believes
that the early 1900s was the golden era of US coin design and
concentrates much of his study within this time frame.
Mike works occasionally with a coin dealer in his hometown doing local
coin shows on Sundays and credits much of his grading skill to this
exposure. "You just have to look at a lot of coins." he says, "Then
you'll know what looks right and what doesn't. It can only come through
experience, so get out, go to shows and look, look, look at coins! Then
look at some more!"
Among other interests, Mike is an accomplished bowler with a 300 game to
his credit. He is also a long time member of the International
Brotherhood of Teamsters.
Mike currently runs a computer tech business with his wife Ginny in the
Chicago suburbs. They have 3 children who Mike claims
"continue to keep him grounded, young, but largely penniless. (Not
necessarily in that order.)"
